Warm up: “Tell me about yourself” and the salary question

Two questions come up in almost every interview and are easy to get wrong: the opener, and the salary question in the recruiter screen. Both have their own quick practice.

Step by step

  1. 1

Warm up with “Tell me about yourself”

On AI Interview, the Warm-up card practises the opener — aimed at your next interview’s job when you have one. Press “Say it” (on a call) or “Type”. Aim for 60–90 seconds: who you are now, one proof point with a number, and why this role.

  2. 2

    Check the length

Your feedback shows how long the pitch took (or would take spoken) against the 60–90 second sweet spot, and the card keeps your best score.

  3. 3

    Set your target salary

Add “Your target salary” on the job (Notes tab) or when you set up a Recruiter screen — any currency, as text, for example “$150k–170k” or “45–55 triệu/tháng”. Use your own research for the city and level.

  4. 4

    Practise the salary question

Recruiter-screen sessions end with “What are your salary expectations for this role?”. You’re scored on technique — a researched range, a confident anchor, openness on the package, or asking for their budget first; never volunteering your current pay — and, with a target, on whether you held your number.

  5. 5

    Then rehearse the offer call

When an offer arrives, AI Interview → Negotiate lets you practise the conversation with a recruiter who has a hidden budget.
