How visa sponsorship works for job seekers

How do I know if a company sponsors visas in the UK?

Employers must hold a sponsor licence from the Home Office to sponsor a Skilled Worker visa. The official register of licensed sponsors is public — this tool searches it. If a company isn't on it (under any of its legal names), it can't currently sponsor.

How can I tell if a US company sponsors H-1B visas?

Before filing an H-1B petition, employers must file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor, and these filings are public. A company with many certified filings in the last year sponsors regularly. The tool also shows USCIS approval counts.

Are the salaries accurate?

They're the wages employers stated in their visa filings for that occupation, level and state — real, legally binding minimums for those workers, and one of the best public salary sources. They don't include bonus or equity, and they describe visa hires specifically.

Does a sponsor licence mean they'll sponsor me?

No — it means they can. Many licensed companies only sponsor certain roles. Ask the recruiter early, and mention your status on your CV.

Where the data comes from

  • UK: Home Office Register of Worker and Temporary Worker licensed sponsors (Open Government Licence), refreshed regularly.
  • US: Department of Labor LCA disclosure data (last 12 months) and the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub.

Company names are matched on their registered legal names. When only similar names are found, we say so — check it’s the same company.
