How sponsorship works in the Netherlands

1. A recognised sponsor offers you the job

Check the employer is on the IND register. Larger companies often hold the recognition through a Dutch B.V.

2. The salary meets the threshold

The IND sets a minimum monthly salary for highly skilled migrants every year, lower for under-30s and recent graduates.

3. The employer applies for you

The employer files the application with the IND, usually decided within weeks. You can then move and register.

Netherlands visa sponsorship questions

What is a recognised sponsor?
An employer the Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) has approved to sponsor foreign employees. Only recognised sponsors can apply for the highly skilled migrant (kennismigrant) residence permit, the most common route for professionals.
If a company is on the register, will it sponsor me?
It can. The job must also meet the IND salary threshold for your age and situation, which is set every year, and the employer has to choose to sponsor for it. Ask the recruiter early.
The company I want isn’t listed. Why?
It may be registered under its legal name (often ending in B.V. or N.V.) or a group company — search a shorter name. Companies not on the register can’t sponsor a highly skilled migrant permit; other routes exist but are less common.
How current is this register?
The IND updates the public register monthly; we refresh our copy every month and show the date it was published.
