Step by step
- 1
Drop your résumé on the homepage
Drag a PDF, DOCX or TXT file onto “Drop your résumé here”, or click the box to choose one. Scoring takes about 30 seconds.
- 2
Read your score
You get a score out of 100 and a grade: Excellent (85+), Good (70–84), Fair (50–69) or Needs work (under 50). Most first uploads land between 55 and 75 — the fixes below are how you move up.
- 3
See what it’s made of
The score adds up six areas, weighted by how much they matter to a recruiter: Bullet quality (40 points — action verbs, specific, one idea per line), Structure (15 — experience, education, skills, dates and titles on every role), Quantified impact (15 — numbers in over half your bullets), Contact (10 — name, email, phone, city, a profile link), Length (10 — 300–1,100 words, a focused skills list) and Summary (5 — 25–90 words, no “I”).
- 4
Start with the top fixes
The fixes are ordered by impact: the first one is worth the most points. A missing phone number or numbers in only a third of your bullets usually cost more than anything else.
- 5
Check it against a job (optional)
Click “Applying for a specific job? Add the post to see your match”, paste the job post and press “Check my match”. You’ll see how many of its keywords you cover and which must-haves are missing.
- 6
Fix it in the editor
Press “Fix my résumé free”. After you create an account, your upload becomes an editable résumé with every fix listed in the Checklist — no retyping. The score updates as you type.
Questions
- Is the score really free?
- Yes. The score, every fix and the job match need no account and no payment.
- What does the score measure?
- Six areas: bullet quality, structure, quantified impact, contact details, length and summary — the things software parses and recruiters skim in their first ten seconds. See How scoring works for the full method.
- Does a high score guarantee interviews?
- No score can. It makes sure nothing obvious holds you back — the job match and tailoring then make it relevant to each role.
- Why is my score different from another checker?
- Every checker weighs things differently. Ours only counts what you can see and fix, and never scores keywords without a job to match against.
